Frequently Asked Questions

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is basically a computer where your website is stored after it is built.  When people access your website, they are simply accessing the pages from the web host’s computer.  It is important to have a reliable web host. The hosting service we use and recommend is Greengeeks.  They have proven to be very reliable and always offer excellent customer support.  Another reliable host is GoDaddy.

What is a domain?

A domain is the web address of a website.  For instance Google’s domain is “google.com.”  It is very important for you to own and control your website’s domain, without it, you don’t own the website.  A great place to get your domain name is GoDaddy, in fact, it’s who we use for our domain registrar.

What is a registrar?

A registrar is a business through whom you would purchase a domain for your website.  Without a domain, you don’t have a website.  It is important to buy your domain from a reputable business.  Some unscrupulous swindlers on the internet will trick you into buying a domain through them, yet they retain all the rights and ownership of said domain.  Thus holding you hostage, in sorts, to keep buying webhosting from them.  It is good advice to never buy webhosting from your registrar.  A trustworthy registrar is GoDaddy.  You guessed it, GoDaddy is who we use as our registrar.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for “search engine optimization.”  And what it basically means how high up on the list your website places on a search engine search for your website’s category or particular search term.  This is a science and you should expect to pay top dollar for front page search engine placement when generic search terms are used.  If the name and city of your business is entered into a search engine, you should be placing among the top of the results regardless of SEO.

What is a QR Code?

A QR Code stands for “Quick Response” and in a nutshell, it’s a new technique for encoding a lot of information (such as business name, slogan, address, website address, fax/phone number, email address, etc) into a single digitized image file, readable by a smartphone camera app.

What is Google Analytics?

Google analytics is a service offered by Google.  It enables you to track the traffic that comes to your website through hit counting technology.  It also gives other valuable variables such as which pages the visitors went to, how they found you, how long they stayed on each page, and much more.

What is content?

Content is all the creative media contained in a website, such as pictures, video and text copy.  Graphics and copy are described in more detail below.

What are graphics?

Graphics are a form of content you see on a website, also known as the images or pictures.  Logos, headers, banners and other pictures on a website are all considered graphics.  Graphics can cost anywhere from nothing to thousands of dollars, and in the world of graphics, you often times get what you pay for.  I have a great working relationship with a top graphics firm, Om Creative Studio, who has been leading the business for over a decade, with such an impressive client list as Disney, Sony, Paramount, Universal, Warner Bros and more.  Best of all, they offer top agency work for boutique pricing, thanks to low overhead.

What is copy/copy creation?

Copy is another form of content on a website, also known as the text or words.  The words you are reading right now are considered “copy” and I wrote it.  The prices I quote do not include creation of any copy.  You, the customer, know your craft better than I do, therefore it will be much better for you to write the copy.  I can help edit and critique the copy you write, but it will take extra time and money.
